the Dawn

Do you dance, Minnaloushe, do you dance?

'My dearest Minnaloushe*' said the Moon

'will you dance with me tonight

until the Dawn do us part?'

'I will my Moon' claimed Minnaloushe

'I will dance with you tonight

until the Death do us part.'

-Before the poet's eyes they danced until the Dawn shone out-

And once again the night would came

for the Moon to show her brightness:

'Where are you young Minnaloushe?

Where are your shining eyes?

Will they be with me tonight

before the Dawn comes out?'

Near the furthest mountain

the Dawn is still hiding;

She shows her grin and gladly hears

the crying of the Moon

behind the black cat's tomb.
